Aster alpinus, commonly known as the alpine aster, is a low-growing herbaceous perennial native to the high-altitude regions of Europe and North America. It forms slowly-spreading clumps of dark green, lance-shaped basal leaves, reaching a height of about eight to twelve inches. In late spring and early summer, it produces charming daisy-like flowers with vibrant blue-violet rays and bright yellow centers. This hardy species thrives in well-drained, fertile soil and prefers full sun.
