About Island™ Barbados Fall Aster

Island™ Barbados is a compact New York aster listed by the Polish Nurserymen Association as Aster ‘Barbados’, with ‘Island Barbados’ given as a synonym. Its blue-violet flowers have yellow centers, and the profile describes a clump about 40 cm high and 40 cm across that flowers from August through October ([Polish Nurserymen Association cultivar profile](https://e-katalogroslin.pl/plants/10242,aster-barbados_aster-barbados)). ## Form and Placement The low clump fits the front of a sunny border or a small-space planting. The cultivar profile reports full sun, moderate moisture, permeable soil, and flowers that attract insects including bees. ## Growing Conditions Use well-drained soil and maintain even moisture during active growth. The RHS notes that New York asters have shallow roots and benefit from moisture-retentive soil; avoid winter waterlogging and leave airflow around the foliage ([RHS Aster growing guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/aster/growing-guide)). ## Maintenance Water during dry spells, especially while establishing. Remove spent stems after flowering and inspect crowded growth for powdery mildew. Divide the clump when it becomes congested, replanting vigorous sections.
