Create design onlineAbout Island™ Tonga Fall Aster
Island™ Tonga is a compact Island Series aster with double, bright-purple daisy flowers and yellow centers. The RHS lists the named selection as Tonga (Dasfour) and reports flowers from summer into autumn. Its listed height and spread range from 0.1 to 0.5 m, so allow for variation between gardens.
## Form and Placement
The clump-forming, deciduous perennial fits a flower border or patio container. The purple flowers and yellow centers add late-season color, while the compact habit keeps the plant suited to smaller spaces.
## Growing Conditions
Provide full sun or partial shade and soil that stays moist while draining freely. Avoid waterlogged winter conditions. The RHS lists clay, loam, chalk, and sandy soils and describes the plant as adaptable across those textures.
## Maintenance
Divide the clump in spring every few years to maintain vigor. Remove faded flowers as desired, then cut old stems to the ground in late autumn. Leave airflow around the foliage and check for powdery mildew.
