Magic™ Purple Aster

Magic™ Purple is Syngenta’s blue color variety in its Magic line of New York aster, despite the trade color name Purple. The breeder identifies it as Aster novi-belgii, code 70018154, with fall flowering, an upright habit, compact-to-medium vigor, and a garden height of 25–40 cm. ## Form and Placement The uniform, well-branched plant is offered for packs and pots, with Syngenta listing container sizes from 10 to 19 cm. Its blue flowers brighten fall displays; grow it in sun or light shade. ## Growing Conditions Use fertile soil that retains some moisture but drains freely, and water regularly in containers. General New York aster guidance recommends moisture-retentive soil; partial shade is suitable, though flowering may be lighter than in full sun. ## Maintenance Water during active growth, especially when the plant is in a pot. Remove spent stems after flowering and divide perennial clumps in spring if they become crowded. Syngenta lists a garden-height range of about 10–16 inches and does not provide a spread on this page.
