Astilbe × arendsii ‘Bridal Veil’ is a clump-forming perennial with lacy, pure-white flower plumes above divided green foliage. The plumes open in early summer and may be left to dry on the plant for added texture later in the year.
## Landscape Use and Seasonal Interest
The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/27436/astilbe-bridal-veil-%C3%97-arendsii/details) describes open, conical white plumes and a mature height near 70 cm. [Perennials.com](https://www.perennials.com/plants/astilbe-arendsii-bridal-veil.html) identifies the cultivar as the classic white astilbe and lists it for shaded borders, woodland gardens, containers, and cutting. Its foliage and flower stems provide a soft, upright contrast beside hostas, ferns, and other shade perennials.
## Siting and Soil
Choose partial or full shade with rich soil that retains moisture while draining adequately. Astilbes can handle more sun in cool-summer locations if the soil stays moist, but drying heat can scorch leaves and shorten the display. Water regularly during dry weather.
## Maintenance
Leave the spent plumes through fall and winter if their structure is welcome, then cut stems back before new growth. Divide established clumps in spring every three to four years to renew them. [The University of Delaware Botanic Gardens’ plant-sale catalog](https://canr.udel.edu/udbg/wp-content/uploads/sites/16/2024/04/perennial-4-1-24.pdf) attributes this historic hybrid to German nurseryman Georg Arends.
