About Maggie Daley False Goat's Beard

Astilbe chinensis ‘Maggie Daley’ is a clump-forming Chinese astilbe with shiny, divided foliage that opens with bronze tones and matures to dark green. Its fuzzy lavender to rose-purple plumes appear in late summer, later than many other astilbes, and rise above a compact leafy mound. ## Landscape Use and Seasonal Interest The [Morton Arboretum](https://mortonarb.org/plant-and-protect/trees-and-plants/chinese-astilbe/) identifies this cultivar by name and describes its flowers as fuzzy lavender-purple, with mature dimensions of roughly 2–3 feet tall and 12–18 inches wide. The RHS profile gives a height near 60 cm and describes dusky-pink late-summer flowers; [Perennials.com](https://www.perennials.com/plants/astilbe-chinensis-maggie-daley.html) also notes mid-summer deep rose-purple blooms and container use. As an established clump, leave room for foliage and flower stems to spread without crowding adjacent plants. ## Siting and Soil Partial shade and rich, evenly moist soil support good foliage and flowering. Astilbe can tolerate more sun in cool-summer regions if the soil remains moist, but drought can brown or damage the leaves. Use it in a shaded perennial border, woodland edge, or large container. ## Maintenance Water during dry spells and remove spent plumes for a tidier look, or leave them for winter texture. Divide established clumps in early spring every two to three years if they become crowded. The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/228781/astilbe-maggie-daley-chinensis-x/details) lists this selection as an interspecific chinensis hybrid.
