Create design onlineAbout Roma Masterwort
Roma is a free-flowering masterwort with upright stems bearing reddish-purple pincushion flowers and a pale ruff of white to light pink bracts. The cultivar’s open, star-like umbels make a useful cut flower and a long-lived accent for borders and cottage gardens.
## Flowers and Garden Use
The patent record identifies ‘Roma’ as a distinct Astrantia major cultivar with reddish-purple flowers, horizontal white-to-pink bracts, early flowering, and repeat flowering without shearing. RHS lists soft pink flowers from June to September and notes its long flowering season.
## Siting and Size
Grow in full sun or partial shade in moist, fertile, humus-rich soil. Keep the root zone from drying out during hot periods. The current compact dimensions are consistent with listings that place the plant around 18–25 inches tall and 15–18 inches wide.
## Maintenance
Water during dry spells and remove faded flowerheads before seed ripens if you want to reduce self-seeding. The patent describes the cultivar as seedless and notes its continuous flowering without shearing.
