About Branford Beauty Lady Fern

Branford Beauty is a large, arching hybrid lady fern with finely divided fronds washed in muted silver, gray, green, and purple. Its height and broad spread suit woodland beds where a bold foliage clump can be given room to mature. ## Landscape use Plant it in a shady or lightly shaded border, woodland garden, or moist area near a stream. The upright clump works as a specimen and can be repeated in groups; allow for a spread that may approach 4 feet in favorable conditions. The fronds bring fine texture and cool-toned color among broad-leaved shade plants. ## Growing conditions Provide part sun to light shade and humus-rich soil that stays evenly moist while draining freely. The hybrid combines Japanese painted fern and lady fern traits. Plant Delights reports USDA zones 3a–8b and about five years to reach its 3-foot-by-4-foot mature clump; retain those dimensions as a site-dependent guide. ## Maintenance Water regularly while establishing and during dry spells. In spring, remove last season’s fronds after new growth is emerging; divide the clump in spring only if needed. Deer resistance is reported by Plant Delights Nursery.
