About Japanese Painted Fern

Athyrium niponicum 'Pictum' is a deciduous, rhizomatous fern known for its elegant arching habit and striking variegated foliage. It typically grows 12 to 18 inches tall, forming a slowly spreading clump of triangular fronds. These fronds feature a soft grayish-green base overlaid with metallic silver hues and accented by contrasting dark maroon midribs. Ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, or containers, it thrives in moist, organically rich, well-drained soils under partial to full shade.
