Create design onlineAbout Audrey™ Red Shades Rockcress
Audrey™ Red Shades is a compact, early-flowering Aubrieta selection with red-toned flowers and a low, mounding habit. Use it near the front of a sunny border, in a rock garden, or in a container where its spring color can be seen at close range.
## Form and seasonal interest
Syngenta lists the Audrey series as Aubrieta hybrida and sells an Audrey Red color selection; its breeder page describes a uniform F1 series and reports early spring flowering. RHS descriptions of the Audrey series characterize the plants as evergreen, slowly spreading mats with gray-green foliage and flowers in red-purple shades. The catalog’s “Red Shades” wording is not the exact color-selection name used on Syngenta’s page, so retain that label pending stronger identification evidence. Expect a low plant, with mature dimensions varying between garden performance and commercial pot-production measurements.
## Siting and soil
Grow in full sun or light shade in well-drained soil. Chalky, sandy, or gritty beds and wall crevices suit the genus; avoid waterlogged winter soil. Once established, Aubrieta tolerates dry spells, but water during prolonged heat or drought. The breeder lists this selection as pollinator friendly and suitable for compact pots.
## Maintenance
Trim after flowering to keep the mat compact and remove spent growth. Water newly planted material until established, then irrigate during extended dry weather. Watch for aphids, flea beetles, and white blister where these occur.
