Cascade Purple Rockcress

Cascade Purple rockcress is a low, evergreen perennial that forms a spreading cushion of small gray-green leaves. Its rich blue-purple flowers cover the mat in spring, with flowering sometimes extending into early summer. The cascading growth makes it useful at the edge of a rock garden, along a dry wall, or in a container where stems can trail. ## Form and placement The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/262203/aubrieta-cascade-purple/details) treats ‘Cascade Purple’ and ‘Purple Cascade’ as synonyms, describing a slowly spreading mat about 10 cm high and 10–50 cm across. It recommends full sun, with tolerance of light shade, and well-drained chalk, loam, or sand with neutral to alkaline pH. The profile gives UK hardiness H6; that rating is not converted here to a USDA zone. ## Seasonal care Use it in rockeries, gravel beds, wall crevices, or the front of a sunny border. Established plants can suit relatively dry slopes, but newly planted mats need water while roots spread. Allow room for the mat to broaden and keep winter drainage open. ## Maintenance Trim lightly after flowering to preserve a compact outline. Remove damaged stems and watch for aphids, flea beetles, or white blister disease. Propagation by seed or softwood cuttings is possible.
