Gold Rush is a named selection of basket-of-gold, an evergreen perennial that makes a low mound of fine gray-green leaves and clusters of bright golden-yellow flowers in early spring. Its compact scale and cascading edge make it useful at the front of a sunny border, in gravel or rock gardens, and beside stone walls.
## Form and placement
The [RHS profile for Gold Rush](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/529129/aurinia-saxatilis-gold-rush/details) describes a low mound with golden flowers, a mature height and spread in the 0.1–0.5 m range, and a preference for full sun and well-drained soil. This plant is best placed where sharp drainage and an open position prevent the crown from staying wet. It suits edging, slopes, and gaps among rocks; allow room for the mound to spread rather than crowding it among taller plants.
## Seasonal care
Flowering is concentrated in spring. The [North Carolina Extension plant profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/aurinia-saxatilis/) reports a four-to-six-week flower display for the species and notes that plants may be short-lived and susceptible to aphids. Cut back the spent flowering stems to keep the mound tidy and encourage fresh foliage, as recommended by the RHS. In warm, humid or poorly drained sites, foliage may decline; avoid frequent irrigation once established.
## Maintenance
After flowering, trim back the flower stems and lightly shape the plant without cutting deeply into old woody growth. Check occasionally for aphids and remove damaged material.
