Create design onlineAbout Decadence® False Indigo Series by Proven Winners
Decadence is a Proven Winners series of hybrid Baptisia false indigos, rather than one individual cultivar. Selections share the genus’s perennial structure and spring flower spikes, but flower color, mature dimensions, and growth habit vary among the named cultivars. Their flowers are followed by seed pods that can extend interest into fall.
## Choosing a Selection
The series includes distinct forms such as Blueberry Sundae, Cherries Jubilee, Dark Chocolate, and Blue Bubbly. Consult the individual cultivar entry for its flower color, mature size, and recommended placement instead of treating the series as a uniform single plant. Iowa State describes Baptisia as a long-lived, clump-forming herbaceous perennial; it can be used as a specimen or in a perennial border.
## Growing Conditions
Plant in full sun for best flowering, though part shade is tolerated. Well-drained soil is essential, and established plants tolerate dry periods. Baptisia forms deep roots and resents being moved, so select a permanent site and allow room for the chosen cultivar’s mature spread. Plants can take several years to reach full size; young specimens may look sparse before they mature. The [Decadence series listing](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/series/decadence) shows its current assortment; [Iowa State Extension’s Baptisia guide](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/growing-baptisia-false-indigo-iowa) covers the shared growth and care pattern.
## Maintenance
Water regularly through the first growing season, then during prolonged dry weather. Remove dead stems in late fall or early spring. Avoid division or relocation of established plants unless necessary.
