About Basselinia humboldtiana

Basselinia humboldtiana is an accepted New Caledonian palm in family Arecaceae. [Kew’s Plants of the World Online](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:913731-1/general-information) identifies it as a tree native to east-central New Caledonia. ## Landscape use In warm, humid climates, use it as a specimen palm in a sheltered garden or conservatory. Choose a location where the crown has room to develop and can be protected from cold, drying winds. ## Siting and water A warm, sheltered setting with humid air and consistent moisture is cautious tropical-palm guidance, but exact light and irrigation needs remain unresolved. Filtered light may be tried in a protected planting; avoid waterlogged soil and abrupt temperature changes in containers. ## Maintenance Check soil moisture during warm weather and water when the surface begins to dry. Remove only dead or damaged leaves, leaving healthy foliage in place.
