Basselinia sordida is a solitary, emergent palm native to the rainforests of New Caledonia. It features a slender trunk, reaching 8 to 10 meters in height, marked by prominent leaf scars. The crown consists of approximately ten spreading, pinnate leaves, each about 2 meters long, emerging from a colorful crownshaft that ranges from olive green to lilac-red. This species thrives on ultramafic soils in steep rainforest talwegs, requiring humid, tropical conditions and well-drained substrate.
