Bewitched Red Black is a Rex begonia selected for dramatically colored foliage, with red and black leaves on an upright, branching plant. Use it as a close-up foliage accent indoors or in a shaded container.
## Foliage and form
[Green Fuse Botanicals](https://green-fuse.com/new/begonia-rex-bewitched/) lists Red/Black as one of its Bewitched Rex selections, and [Wallish Greenhouses](https://wallishgreenhouses.ca/plant-name/1255) describes the exact Bewitched Red Black plant as having red and black foliage. The breeder characterizes the series as cut-leaved and strongly branched, forming a full pot of leaves. It is grown chiefly for foliage; any flowers are secondary to the patterned leaves.
## Growing conditions
Rex begonia hybrids do best in bright, indirect light and moist, well-drained mix. [NCSU Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/begonia-rex-types/common-name/painted-leaf-begonia/) recommends higher humidity and warns that misting or overwatering can encourage disease and root rot. Wallish lists an upright habit, partial to full shade and a mature range of about 30–45 cm tall by 20–30 cm wide. Treat those figures as a cultivation range rather than a fixed landscape size; pot size and greenhouse conditions affect the result. This tender plant can be grown indoors year-round or outside in a shaded container during warm weather.
## Maintenance
Water when the mix starts to dry at the surface, then drain the pot thoroughly. Remove spent or damaged foliage and keep leaves dry with good air circulation. Protect from frost and avoid hot direct sun.
