About Bossa Nova™ Mix Begonia

Bossa Nova™ Mix is a seed-raised Begonia boliviensis from Syngenta’s Bossa Nova series, sold as a mix of flower colors rather than one named color. Its branched, mounding and trailing growth gives it a cascading outline for hanging baskets, patio pots, and raised containers. ## Flowers and form The breeder lists flowering from mid-spring into summer, with garden dimensions of 12–16 inches tall and 16–20 inches wide. Because this is a color mix, the flowers in an individual plant or packet may vary; a single flower-color value would be misleading. The breeder lists the series for full sun, partial shade, and full shade, and notes its heat and sun tolerance. ## Growing Use a container with open drainage and a moisture-retentive but free-draining potting mix. Check baskets and pots regularly in warm weather, since exposed containers dry faster than garden beds. The 12–16 inch by 16–20 inch figures are the breeder’s garden labels; finished size changes with light, temperature, watering, and growing time. Syngenta lists USDA hardiness zones 9a–11a and classifies the product as an annual, while the RHS describes the species as a tuberous perennial; outside frost-free areas it is commonly grown for one season. See the [Syngenta Bossa Nova Mix profile](https://www.syngentaflowers.com/ams/product/flower/70091945) and the [RHS species profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/164608/begonia-boliviensis-t/details). ## Maintenance Remove damaged foliage and keep the container draining freely. In climates with freezing winters, treat it as a seasonal container plant unless you can protect the tuber from frost; in mild climates, follow local care for tuberous begonias.
