Create design onlineAbout Shadow King® Cool White - Begonia
Shadow King® Cool White is a compact rex begonia with highly patterned foliage. Grower descriptions emphasize steely white leaves with faint green veining and raspberry hints, while the patent record describes green leaves marked with gray-green to gray speckles.
## Size and foliage
The [DGI grower profile](https://www.dgiplants.com/2015-reviews/spring-2015/951-shadow-king-begonias) identifies Cool White with U.S. plant patent PP24738. The patent names cultivar KRBELYF02 and records a compact, mounded plant with dark green leaves and numerous gray-green to gray spots. DGI lists series dimensions of 8–12 inches high by about 6 inches wide; the patent describes a 10-week greenhouse-grown plant about 42.2 cm wide. Because these figures come from different production contexts, allow flexible spacing as the plant matures.
## Growing conditions
Rex begonias are grown primarily for foliage. The [North Carolina Extension guide](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/begonia-rex-types/) recommends bright indirect light, humidity and moist, well-drained soil. DGI uses Shadow Kings in shade beds, containers and indoor displays.
## Maintenance
Water when the mix begins to dry, then allow excess moisture to drain. Remove damaged leaves and protect the plant from frost, harsh direct sun and dry indoor air.
