Shadow King® Lava Red - Begonia

Shadow King® Lava Red is a compact rex begonia grown for its solid red foliage. The bold leaf color makes it a strong accent in a shaded container or a massed planting beneath taller foliage. ## Foliage and placement A [Diefenbacher Greenhouses grower note](https://dgiplants.com/component/acymailing/archive/view/listid-28-trade-none/mailid-477-extra-tall-angelonias) identifies Lava Red as a new Shadow King color and describes it as vibrant solid red. The [Green Fuse catalog](https://green-fuse.com/new/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/GreenFuse-Catalog-2024-25-lr.pdf) lists Lava Red among the compact, heavily branched Shadow King selections, which are intended for smaller containers and combinations. DGI gives the series a consistent height of about 8–12 inches and recommends shade beds and containers. ## Growing conditions Rex begonias are valued chiefly for their leaves.
