Shadow King® Turtle Love - Begonia

Shadow King® Turtle Love is a rex begonia in Green Fuse’s compact Love subseries. Its small foliage and compact growth suit shaded containers, sheltered patios and indoor displays. ## Series and placement The [GrowerTalks report on Green Fuse’s 2024 introductions](https://www.growertalks.com/Newsletters/View/Newsletter/?article=4142) names Turtle Love among the Love selections and describes that subseries as compact, small-leaved crosses between rex begonias and Begonia bowerae. It recommends them for indoor use and outdoor shade. The [Lucas Greenhouses Spring 2024 catalog](https://www.lucasgreenhouses.com/_ccLib/attachments/about/Lucas%2BSpring%2B2024%2Bno%2Bprices.pdf) lists the Shadow King series as Green Fuse rex begonias. Neither source gives a dependable cultivar-specific mature size or leaf pattern. ## Growing conditions North Carolina State Extension describes rex begonias as foliage plants that prefer bright indirect light, moist well-drained soil and high humidity. Use a light potting mix, let the surface begin to dry before watering and allow excess water to drain. Protect leaves from harsh direct sun. ## Maintenance Keep the plant warm and sheltered, remove damaged leaves and provide airflow. Protect it from frost and reduce watering if growth slows in winter.
