Create design onlineAbout AmeriHybrid® Ruffled Apricot Tuberous Begonia
AmeriHybrid® Ruffled Apricot is an upright tuberous begonia selected for large, fully double flowers with ruffled apricot petals. PanAmerican Seed lists it in the AmeriHybrid® Ruffled F1 Series, bred for showy blooms, with a mature height of 14–20 inches and spread of 10–12 inches.
## Flowers and size
The Ruffled series combines large flowers with a consistently double form; the warm apricot color makes this selection useful as a close-view accent in containers and sheltered border fronts. [PanAmerican Seed’s catalog](https://www.panamseed.com/PdfAssets/pdfpage.aspx?pdfid=301) lists Ruffled Apricot and gives the series details.
## Siting
Grow it in partial or dappled shade, sheltered from strong wind, in organically rich soil that remains moist but drains freely. Tuberous begonias need protection from drying conditions, and soggy soil can rot the tuber. A container with open drainage or a protected border-front position gives it room and airflow. [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/begonia-tuberous-types/) describes the group's light and soil needs and its use in containers and window boxes.
## Seasonal care
Use it as a warm-season bedding or container plant where winters freeze. Before frost, move a container to a frost-free place or lift the tuber, dry it, and store it in a cool, dry location until late winter. Tuberous begonias usually flower from early summer until the first frost.
## Maintenance
Water when rainfall is insufficient, checking containers more often as they dry. Remove spent flowers and damaged leaves, keep drainage open, and avoid crowding to limit foliar disease. Reduce watering as foliage yellows in fall. Keep tubers and sap away from pets and children; roots contain soluble calcium oxalates and sap can irritate skin.
