Golden Torch® Upright Yellow Barberry

Golden Torch® (‘Torchd’Or’) is a compact, upright Japanese barberry with lemon-yellow leaves, orange-red young shoots, and red autumn color. Small yellow flowers appear in May and can develop into bright red berries. ## Garden Use The narrow columnar shape adds a vertical accent in borders, rock gardens, or containers. The changing foliage provides color from spring into autumn. ## Mature Size The breeder lists a mature height of 0.8–1.2 m and width of 0.5–0.8 m. Use these as approximate ranges and allow for variation by site and growing conditions. ## Light and Seasonal Color Plant in sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. The breeder lists USDA zone 6 and describes a deciduous shrub with yellow foliage, yellow flowers, and red autumn berries. ## Maintenance Remove damaged or misplaced branches as needed and lightly shape if necessary. Water during establishment and avoid prolonged saturation. Barberry stems are spiny, so wear gloves when handling them.
