Create design onlineAbout Bressingham Ruby Bergenia
Bergenia ‘Bressingham Ruby’ is a compact perennial with glossy green summer leaves that deepen to ruby red and crimson-purple in winter. Its early spring flower spikes carry deep pink blooms.
## Garden Use
Use this clump-forming perennial as ground cover, edging, or a front-of-border foliage accent. Winter leaf color is strongest in brighter conditions, though the plant also grows in partial shade.
## Seasonal Interest
The main display comes from green leaves that shift to red shades in winter, paired with pink bell-shaped flowers in spring. Frost can damage emerging flower stems, so local weather may affect the display.
## Mature Size and Siting
Bressingham Gardens lists approximate dimensions of 30–45 cm tall and wide. Plant in sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil; very wet or very dry conditions are less suitable. Shade can reduce winter foliage color.
## Maintenance
Remove dead or disfigured leaves and faded flower stems as needed. Divide established clumps after flowering or in early autumn. In exposed cold sites, drying winds may damage the foliage.
