About Bergenia DRAGONFLY™ 'Sakura'

DRAGONFLY™ ‘Sakura’ is a compact, evergreen Bergenia with glossy green foliage that turns purple-red in autumn. The exact selection is listed by [Terra Nova](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/bergenia-dragonfly-sakura/) with a 10-inch foliage height, 12-inch spread, and 15-inch flower-stem height; it produces pink, semi-double flowers in March and April. The [Royal Horticultural Society profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/325969/bergenia-dragonfly-sakura/details) also describes its clumping habit and seasonal foliage. ## Landscape use Use this low mound near a path, at the front of a border, or in a container where its spring flowers and winter foliage color remain visible. Small groupings also work as ground cover. ## Foliage and flowers Rounded glossy leaves stay green through active growth and can turn dark purple-red as autumn arrives. Semi-double pink flowers rise on upright, red-flushed stems in spring. ## Siting and soil Terra Nova lists full sun and part shade, while the RHS lists full shade as an additional position. Use soil that holds some moisture but drains well, and avoid persistently wet conditions. ## Maintenance Remove faded flower spikes and damaged leaves as needed. Divide a mature clump if it becomes crowded, and water new divisions while they establish.
