Betula papyrifera, the Paper Birch, is a medium-sized deciduous tree reaching 50 to 70 feet. It features a pyramidal to rounded habit and can be grown with single or multiple trunks. Its most striking feature is the chalky-white bark that peels in thin, papery layers. The dark green, ovate leaves turn a brilliant yellow in autumn. This pioneer species thrives in cool, moist, well-drained soils and full sun. While valued for its ornamental beauty and timber, it is sensitive to heat.
