About Bluebird Nemesia

Bluebird is Proven Winners’ original Nemesia fruticans selection ‘Hubbird’, an upright annual with fragrant blue-purple flowers and green foliage. Its exact cultivar listing gives a mature size of 10–12 inches tall and 12–18 inches wide, USDA hardiness zones 8–10, and flowers from planting until hard frost. The listing identifies United States plant patent number 12,014; Canada granted plant breeders’ rights certificate 1634 in 2003 and recorded its surrender in 2020. ## Garden Use The compact dimensions suit containers, hanging baskets and the front of an annual border. Blue-purple flowers and soft fragrance are easy to appreciate near a path or seating area. See the exact [Bluebird detail page](https://plantaddicts.com/bluebird-nemesia) and the [Canadian plant-rights record for ‘Hubbird’](https://active.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/pbrpov/cropreport/nem/app00002604e.shtml). ## Growing Conditions Give plants part sun to sun and freely draining soil. Water moderately and let excess moisture drain away; the cultivar listing advises keeping soil on the drier side rather than leaving it saturated. In climates colder than its listed hardiness range, grow Bluebird as an annual. ## Maintenance Deadheading is unnecessary. If flowering slows, lightly shear the plant to encourage branching and further flowers. A modest application of compost or fertilizer at planting supports growth; follow product directions for later feeding.
