About Blushing Princess Sweet Alyssum

Blushing Princess® is a trailing sweet alyssum with fragrant flowers that open white and mature to blush lavender. This named Lobularia hybrid grows as an annual in the garden, where it can form a low, spreading groundcover or spill from a large planter. ## Growth and Flowering Plants reach 10–16 inches tall and spread about 24–36 inches, with stems trailing up to 36 inches. Space plants 18–24 inches apart. The breeder lists spring and summer flowering, continuing from planting until hard frost. The flower display and lavender blush are most visible in open, bright placements. ## Siting Use full sun to part sun. In USDA zones 9–11, the plant can grow as a perennial; elsewhere it is commonly used as a warm-season annual. Proven Winners describes good heat tolerance and average water needs. In containers, a larger pot helps maintain moisture; use a freely draining mix and avoid letting the root ball dry out for long periods. In beds, allow room for the spreading stems. ## Maintenance Deadheading is not needed for continued flowering. Trim stems that reach over paths or nearby plants, and feed container plantings according to the fertilizer label.
