Majestic Purple is a vigorous bougainvillea grown for deep purple to pink-violet papery bracts around small, pale flowers. It can be trained as a climbing vine or pruned into a bush, and its warm-climate display is also possible in a container that can be protected from frost.
## Growth and display
The [Brighter Blooms cultivar page](https://www.brighterblooms.com/products/majestic-purple-bougainvillea) lists an 8–12 ft height and 10 ft spread, while [Boething Treeland Farms](https://www.boethingtreeland.com/plants/bougainvillea-purple-majesty/) gives a broader 3–15 ft height and 2 ft spread for Purple Majesty/Majestic Purple. These differences reflect how bougainvillea is trained and the growing conditions; the plant can be grown as a vine or bush. Bracts are most colorful in strong sun, and the tiny true flowers are pale.
## Siting
Choose a warm, sunny position with freely draining soil. Both sources recommend full sun; avoid persistently wet ground. The seller recommends USDA zones 9–11 outdoors and moving a container plant indoors when temperatures drop. In cooler regions, treat it as seasonal patio color or overwinter it in a bright protected space.
## Maintenance
Give new growth a trellis, fence, or other support, or prune selectively to keep a shrub shape. Wear gloves when handling the thorny stems. Water thoroughly after planting and while establishing, then allow the soil to dry somewhat between waterings; excess moisture can favor foliage over bracts. Light pruning after flowering can maintain the desired outline.
