About Pink Pixie Bougainvillea

Pink Pixie is a compact, rounded bougainvillea with rosy-pink bracts and dense green foliage, suited to sunny small gardens and containers. It grows more slowly and stays far smaller than many climbing bougainvilleas, though cold weather can reduce its evergreen appearance. ## Growth and display [Desert Horizon Nursery](https://www.deserthorizonnursery.com/plant/bougainvillea-dwarf-pink/) identifies its Dwarf Pink as Pink Pixie and lists a mounded, spreading form about 2–3 ft tall by 3–4 ft wide; its care notes give 3–4 ft tall by 3–5 ft wide. SiteOne lists a maximum 6 ft width, so the display range allows for that broader nursery figure. [SiteOne's Pink Pixie listing](https://www.siteone.com/en/62210b-bougainvillea-glabra-pink-pixie-bougainvillea/p/815433) also identifies the cultivar as compact with bright pink bracts. Sizes vary with warmth, pruning, and growing conditions, but this cultivar is appropriate where a full-size bougainvillea would overwhelm the space. ## Siting Give it at least six hours of sun and well-drained soil. Water deeply while establishing, then let the upper soil dry between waterings; use a freely draining mix in a pot. Desert Horizon reports flowering from spring through fall and semi-evergreen foliage that may thin in cold or drought stress. Outdoor hardiness is limited to warm climates; for colder areas, use a container and protect it before frost. The thorny stems and sap can irritate skin. ## Maintenance Prune lightly after flowering to preserve the rounded outline and remove damaged growth. Wear gloves and long sleeves when handling stems. Avoid frequent shallow watering and waterlogged soil; container plants may need more frequent checks during hot weather. Keep the plant in strong light for the best flowering.
