About Amethyst Brachyscome

‘Amethyst’ is a low, spreading Brachyscome grown for violet to amethyst daisy flowers with contrasting green centers and finely divided foliage. The Australian Cultivar Registration Authority records it as a named cultivar presumed to derive from Brachyscome multifida, while Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria identifies the cultivar as B. multifida ‘Amethyst’ ([ACRA cultivar record](https://acra.biodiversity.services/info/rdetail/2793); [HortFlora](https://hortflora.rbg.vic.gov.au/taxon/f6639d04-5340-11e7-b82b-005056b0018f)). ## Flowers and garden use The cultivar flowers through the year in some climates, with its strongest display in spring and summer. It works as a spreading groundcover in rockeries and borders, and also suits pots or hanging baskets where stems can soften the edge. The ACRA record gives a spread of about one metre, while container-grown plants may remain more compact. ## Siting and water Full sun and adequate moisture support the best flowering. The ACRA record notes that the plant tolerates moderately dry conditions, but it should be watered during establishment and prolonged dry weather. Protect it from severe frost; damaged plants can recover when warm weather returns. ## Maintenance Trim lightly if needed to refresh the mound or keep it within its allotted space. Remove faded flowers for a tidier appearance, and divide or replace plants if a spreading clump outgrows its position. Use a freely draining growing mix in containers.
