About Blue Rock Palm

Blue rock palm is a blue-leaved form of Brahea dulcis. It shares the fan-shaped leaves and dry-climate character of the species, a trunked palm native from Mexico to Honduras. ## Form and display The [St. Johns Botanical Garden nursery list](https://www.stjohnsbotanicalgarden.org/shivering-palms-nursery/) lists Brahea dulcis as Blue Rock Palm, supporting the common-name pairing. The [RHS profile for B. dulcis](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/2381/brahea-dulcis/details) describes a single trunk, 30–50 leaf segments, and green to slightly blue-green leaves. ## Siting Use a sunny site with excellent drainage. The RHS recommends full sun and notes that the species tolerates poor, dry soil in frost-free areas; protect young plants or move container-grown palms under cover where frost is a concern. Allow room for a fan crown and eventual trunk. ## Maintenance Allow the soil to drain freely and avoid overwatering. For a young container-grown palm, water moderately during active growth and more sparingly during winter rest. Remove only dead fronds, and handle the leaf stalks carefully because the species can have spiny petioles. Give the palm enough room for its crown as it matures.
