BUZZ® Velvet Butterfly Bush

BUZZ® Velvet is the trade name associated with the patented Buddleja davidii cultivar ‘TOBUD0703’. The [U.S. plant patent](https://patents.justia.com/patent/PP23462) describes conical spikes of purple flowers, an upright bushy form, and a long flowering season; the grant issued March 12, 2013. Retail profiles describe the blooms as dark pink to magenta, reflecting the range of color descriptions used for this selection. ## Siting Grow in full sun in well-drained soil. [Sooner Plant Farm](https://www.soonerplantfarm.com/plant/butterfly-bush-buzz-velvet) identifies the marketed BUZZ® Velvet plant as Buddleia davidii 'Tobud0703' and lists patent PP23462, zones 5–9, a 3–4 foot height, and a 2–3 foot spread. These mature dimensions are consistent with its compact garden form; the patent's smaller measurements describe young container plants. ## Maintenance Give the shrub room for its mature spread and avoid persistently wet soil. Prune as needed to maintain shape; flowering and mature size vary with climate and pruning.
