Bunchosia argentea, often called peanut butter fruit, is a tropical shrub or small tree grown for its orange fruit. The [University of São Paulo Botanic Garden profile](https://sites.usp.br/jardimdabotanicausprp/manteiga-de-amendoim-bunchosia-argentea/) describes yellow flowers and small fruits whose pulp has a flavor resembling peanut butter. Kew’s [Plants of the World Online](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:555883-1/general-information) accepts the species name and records the plant as used for food.
## Flowers and fruit
The leaves are oval with smooth, slightly wavy margins. Small yellow flowers precede orange fruit with thin skin and sticky pulp. The fruit’s reported flavor gives rise to the common name.
## Siting
Provide warmth, full sun, fertile soil rich in organic matter, and good drainage. The university garden notes that the plant may tolerate some winter cold but needs tropical warmth for full development. In cooler areas, grow it in a container that can be moved to a warm, sheltered place.
## Maintenance
Keep the root zone evenly moist during establishment without allowing water to stand around it. Maintain fertile, well-drained soil and protect the plant from freezing conditions.
