Burretiokentia dumasii is a solitary palm native to wet tropical forest in west-central New Caledonia. Kew’s [Plants of the World Online](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/1003327-1) accepts the species, and the taxonomic study [Three New Species of Burretiokentia](https://horizon.documentation.ird.fr/exl-doc/pleins_textes/divers19-04/010036072.pdf) describes it from rocky ultramafic soils in rainforest habitat near 600 metres elevation. The species has an erect trunk and a crown of spreading pinnate leaves.
## Habitat and form
The published accounts place this palm in a warm, wet tropical biome, with rapid drainage around its roots. Habitat measurements and cultivated plant sizes can differ, so allow generous space rather than relying on a single mature-size figure. The crown provides the palm’s main ornamental presence.
## Growing conditions
Provide warmth, humidity, and a sheltered position with excellent drainage. Avoid cold snaps and drying winds, particularly for young palms. Young palms benefit from a sheltered position with bright filtered light, warmth, and humid air.
## Maintenance
Keep the root zone evenly moist during warm weather without waterlogging. Protect the palm from cold and dry air, and remove only dead or damaged leaves. Adjust moisture and shelter to local temperature and humidity.
