Chicagoland Green® is the compact boxwood selection **Buxus ‘Glencoe’**, introduced through the [Chicagoland Grows® program](https://www.chicagobotanic.org/sites/default/files/pdf/commercial_releases/PRB%207%20Chicagoland%20Green%20Boxwood.pdf). It is a broadleaf evergreen with a rounded shape and foliage that holds green color well through winter.
## Form and placement
The [Chicago Botanic Garden release bulletin](https://www.chicagobotanic.org/sites/default/files/pdf/commercial_releases/PRB%207%20Chicagoland%20Green%20Boxwood.pdf) describes a dense, broad-oval shrub, slow-to-medium growth, and good performance in filtered sun; it advises avoiding extremely wet sites. The [Morton Arboretum profile](https://mortonarb.org/plant-and-protect/trees-and-plants/boxwood-hybrids/) gives a compact, rounded form about 2–3 feet high and wide. The release reports 3–4 feet high with a 5-foot spread at 15 years, showing that size depends on age and growing conditions. Use it for a low hedge, border, foundation planting, or rounded accent, leaving room for its mature outline.
## Maintenance
Keep the root zone evenly moist and well drained, and shelter foliage from drying winter winds where those occur. Prune in early spring if shaping is needed; Morton Arboretum notes boxwoods can be clipped for hedges.
