About Faulkner Little Leaf Boxwood

Buxus microphylla ‘Faulkner’ is a dense evergreen boxwood with small, glossy deep-green leaves and a bushy outline. The Royal Horticultural Society lists a maximum height of 1–1.5 metres and spread of 1.5–2.5 metres, typically reached over 10–20 years. It works well for edging, clipped hedges, screens, containers, and topiary. ## Position and soil Grow in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil. The RHS notes that dry soil combined with strong sun or wind can scorch foliage, so a sheltered site and consistent root-zone moisture help reduce stress. ## Shape and seasonal interest The cultivar has a bushy evergreen habit and adds year-round structure. Its small, pale yellow flowers are inconspicuous compared with the foliage. Leave adequate space for eventual spread, especially when planting in groups or beside paths. ## Maintenance Trim in summer to maintain a hedge or topiary outline; older plants can be renovated in late spring. Mulch and apply a general fertilizer after hard renovation pruning. Monitor for box tree caterpillar, box sucker, scale, mites, leaf spot, box blight, and, less commonly, honey fungus.
