About Uptight Columnar Boxwood

Uptight® is the trade name for the patented Buxus microphylla cultivar ‘Robbuxupt’. Its defining feature is a naturally narrow, columnar form with dense, deep-green foliage that stays green through winter; the patent records medium vigor and USDA zone 5 hardiness. [Plant patent USPP 21,390](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP21390P2/en) ## Landscape Use The narrow outline makes Uptight useful where a vertical evergreen accent or compact hedge is needed without a broad boxwood mound. Sooner Plant Farm lists a mature size of 4–5 feet tall by 2–3 feet wide and recommends it as a landscape specimen. [Sooner Plant Farm](https://www.soonerplantfarm.com/plant/boxwood-uptight) ## Siting and Soil The patent describes full-sun planting and loam or other well-drained soil. Keep the root area from remaining saturated, especially in winter. The patent and grower page place the cultivar in USDA zones 5–9. ## Maintenance Allow room for its upright mature outline and avoid planting where poor drainage is unavoidable. Inspect the shrub after winter and remove damaged or unwanted branches; routine shaping can follow the desired hedge or specimen form.
