About Tide Hill Boxwood

Tide Hill is a slow-growing evergreen boxwood with a low, spreading outline and small green to yellow-green leaves. Dawes Arboretum accepts the cultivar as Buxus sinica variety insularis ‘Tide Hill’ and lists Buxus microphylla variety koreana ‘Tide Hill’ as a synonym. [Dawes Arboretum](https://dawesarb.arboretumexplorer.org/taxon-20486.aspx) ## Landscape Use The low form suits edging and compact hedges. At 25 years Dawes reports a height of about 15 inches and a somewhat greater spread; the mature outline can vary with age and growing conditions. ## Siting and Soil The Arboretum lists the cultivar for USDA zone 5 and describes it as evergreen. Provide well-drained soil and avoid persistently waterlogged sites; consult the [RHS box growing guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/box/growing-guide) for general box cultivation background. ## Maintenance Allow room for a wider-than-tall shape and trim lightly when needed to maintain an edge or hedge. Remove dead or damaged stems and keep the root area from remaining saturated.
