About Baby Gem™ Boxwood Shrub

Baby Gem® is the patented ‘Gregem’ selection of Japanese littleleaf boxwood, grown for a compact, mounding form and dark-green evergreen foliage. Garden Debut and J. Berry Nursery give a mature size near 4 feet tall by 4–5 feet wide; patent USPP 21,159 identifies the cultivar. [Garden Debut](https://www.gardendebut.com/plantName/Baby-Gem-Boxwood) [J. Berry Nursery](https://www.jberrynursery.com/portfolio/baby-gem-boxwood) ## Landscape Use The compact outline suits low hedges, borders, edging, containers, and mass plantings. Expect roughly 3–4 feet of height and 4–5 feet of spread; the sources place the plant in USDA zones 5–9. ## Siting and Soil Grow in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. J. Berry reports drought and heat tolerance once established, so water regularly during establishment and reduce irrigation only after roots are established. The evergreen foliage provides year-round structure. ## Maintenance Garden Debut describes Baby Gem as low maintenance and slow growing. Lightly trim in spring to maintain a compact outline, and remove damaged branches as needed. Avoid leaving the root zone saturated.
