Create design onlineAbout Eseles Wedding Ring® Variegated Korean Boxwood
Wedding Ring® is the trade name for ‘Eseles,’ a compact, mounded Korean boxwood with glossy green leaves edged in lime that matures to gold. Its variegated evergreen foliage holds color through summer and winter, creating a low, year-round accent for borders and formal gardens.
## Cultivar and size
The [Proven Winners cultivar page](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/buxus/wedding-ring-boxwood-buxus-microphylla-var-koreana) identifies Wedding Ring® as *Buxus microphylla* var. *koreana* ‘Eseles,’ lists a mature height and spread of 12 inches to 3 feet, and gives USDA zones 5–9. The U.S. patent for [‘Eseles’](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP22328P2/en) describes compact, mounded growth and green-and-yellow variegation; its grant date is December 13, 2011.
## Siting
Use it in a low hedge, border, container or formal planting where the foliage can be appreciated. Provide sun or partial shade and moist, well-drained soil. Mulch over the shallow roots and protect the foliage from drying winter winds.
## Maintenance
This slow-growing boxwood needs little pruning; shape lightly when needed and remove any shoots that revert to solid green. Keep the root zone evenly moist during establishment, avoid waterlogged soil, and check periodically for mites, scale, leaf spots and other common boxwood problems.
