Create design onlineAbout Green Tower® Boxwood
Green Tower® is the trade name for ‘Monrue’, a narrow, upright common boxwood with dense evergreen foliage. Its naturally columnar form is useful where a conventional broad hedge would take too much room, and it can also be clipped as a vertical topiary accent.
## Form and placement
The [Monrovia cultivar profile](https://www.monrovia.com/green-tower-boxwood.html) identifies Green Tower as Buxus sempervirens ‘Monrue’, with mature dimensions around 9 feet tall and 1–2 feet wide. It recommends the cultivar for borders, containers, hedges, privacy screens, and topiary. The [plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP15243P2/en) also records the cultivar as upright and columnar, with dark green foliage retained through the year.
## Growing conditions
Grow in full sun to partial shade and use well-drained soil. Water deeply and regularly during the first few growing seasons to establish roots, then reduce watering frequency. The cultivar listing gives USDA zones 5–9.
## Seasonal interest
Green Tower is grown primarily for its dense evergreen foliage and upright structure; its small flowers are inconspicuous.
## Maintenance
Prune as needed to shape or maintain a screen. The narrow habit can remain relatively formal without frequent shearing, provided the plant has enough space and receives good drainage.
