Create design onlineAbout Callie® 'Dark Red' Calibrachoa
Callie® ‘Dark Red’ is a compact, trailing calibrachoa with vivid red, trumpet-shaped flowers and green foliage. It flowers over a long spring-to-fall season and makes a colorful spiller for hanging baskets and mixed containers.
## Garden use and season
Place it where stems can cascade over a basket or planter, or let it trail at the edge of a sunny bed. The [Syngenta cultivar profile](https://www.syngentaflowers.com/ams/product/flower/70068741) identifies Callie Dark Red and lists a 4–8 inch height, 12–16 inch width, part sun to full sun, and flowering from early spring through summer; its description notes a longer spring-to-fall display.
## Growing conditions
Provide a sunny site and a well-drained container mix. Keep the root ball from drying completely in hot weather, while allowing excess water to drain; [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/calibrachoa-x-hybrida/) recommends moisture-retentive but well-drained soil and notes that calibrachoa is generally grown as an annual. Use it as seasonal bedding or container color where frost may occur.
## Maintenance
Water container plants as the mix begins to dry and trim back stems that become uneven or overly long. Faded blooms do not need to be removed to keep the plant flowering, though light cleanup can improve appearance.
