Create design onlineAbout OMBRE™ Purple Calibrachoa hybrida
OMBRE™ Purple calibrachoa adds large flowers and a shifting color display to sunny containers. Danziger describes this cultivar as medium-vigor and controlled semi-trailing, with a multi-color effect on each plant. The stems are suited to baskets and patio pots, where they can spill over the rim.
## Form and season
The breeder describes Purple as an early-flowering Calibrachoa hybrida with large flowers and a range of colors on each plant ([cultivar details](https://www.danzigeronline.com/catalog/annuals/ombre-purple/)). The selected color is expressed in the trade name; the OMBRE effect means flowers may show more than one shade. Illinois Extension gives May through October as a general Calibrachoa bloom period for Illinois, not a fixed date for every climate. The crop is usually grown as an annual where winter frost occurs.
## Siting and care
Choose full sun for the strongest flowering. Use fertile, well-drained potting mix and keep the root zone evenly moist without leaving it waterlogged. Danziger notes pH sensitivity for Calibrachoa, so avoid extreme potting-mix pH and investigate persistent yellowing rather than assuming it is a water problem ([crop guidance](https://www.danzigeronline.com/crops/calibrachoa-hybrida/)). Use the compact, trailing growth at the edge of a combination planter, window box, or hanging basket. Danziger reports a strong garden-performance trial score for this selection, but that result does not guarantee identical performance in every site.
## Maintenance
Check containers often in warm weather and water when the mix begins to dry; allow excess water to drain freely. Feed container plants regularly with a balanced fertilizer according to its label. Pinch or lightly trim overlong stems to keep the plant in proportion, and remove damaged growth.
