‘Freya’ is a compact, clump-forming clustered bellflower with dark-green leaves and dense lilac-to-violet-blue flower clusters in summer. Its upright stems reach about 16 inches, making it suitable for sunny or partly shaded borders, cottage gardens, and smaller naturalistic plantings.
## Flowers and form
The [Royal Horticultural Society profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/309953/campanula-glomerata-freya/details) describes a vigorous rhizomatous perennial with upright stems to 40 cm, dark-green foliage, and dense violet-blue bell-shaped flowers through summer. [North Carolina Extension’s species profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/campanula-glomerata/) lists ‘Freya’ as a cultivar with lilac-purple flowers and green leaves, up to 18 inches tall. These descriptions support the compact height and floral color; the plant may spread gradually from its clump.
## Siting
Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. The RHS allows chalk, clay, loam, and sand, and recommends neutral to alkaline soil. Use it in a border or group with other perennials rather than in a spot that stays waterlogged. Flowering stems attract pollinators, and removing spent blooms can encourage another flush.
## Maintenance
Water during establishment and extended dry periods. After flowering, cut back spent stems to tidy the clump and potentially promote rebloom. Divide in spring or autumn if the clump becomes crowded or spreads beyond its allotted space; watch for slugs and snails.
