Create design onlineAbout Atomic Red™ Trumpet Vine
Atomic Red™ is a red-flowered trumpet vine selection sold under that name. Dark red buds open into red-orange trumpets, with color deepening as the flowers mature; the vigorous deciduous vine is best used where its climbing stems and suckers can be managed ([sources: [SiteOne product profile](https://www.siteone.com/en/90173b-campsis-radicans-atomic-red-trumpet-vine-/p/909682), [University of Illinois Extension](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/trumpet-vine), [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/campsis-radicans/common-name/trumpet-vine/)]).
## Flowers and form
The exact-cultivar product profile describes flowering from summer into fall and a mature vine capable of reaching roughly 20–30 feet. Give it a sturdy wall, fence, or substantial trellis, and allow room for lateral growth. Full sun supports the heaviest flowering. The species’ clinging rootlets help it attach to rough surfaces, but ties may be useful while young.
## Siting
Plant in a sunny site with ordinary well-drained garden soil. The supplier lists USDA zones 4–9. As with trumpet vine generally, root suckers may appear beyond the main stem; choose a location where this growth can be inspected and removed. Green leaves are shed seasonally. The tubular flowers are visited by hummingbirds and other pollinators.
## Maintenance
Water during establishment and extended dry spells. Each year in late winter or early spring, shorten selected shoots to keep the vine within its allotted space and remove dead or misplaced stems. Remove unwanted suckers promptly, and provide support rated for a mature woody vine.
