About Flamenco Trumpet Vine

‘Flamenco’ is a vigorous, deciduous trumpet vine with red-orange flowers and contrasting orange throats. It climbs by rootlets and can form a substantial woody framework, making it suited to a sturdy wall or large trellis where its spread can be controlled ([sources: [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/44017/campsis-radicans-flamenco/details), [Campbell’s Nursery](https://www.campbellsnursery.com/product/uncategorized/trumpet-vine-flamenco/), [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/campsis-radicans/common-name/trumpet-vine/)]). ## Flowers and form The Royal Horticultural Society describes summer-to-autumn flowering, with a mature height of 8–12 m and spread of 2.5–4 m. Campbell’s Nursery gives a more compact estimate of 20–30 feet tall by 6–8 feet wide. These sources agree on its vigorous climbing habit, while their mature height and spread ranges differ; the combined ranges are reflected in the display labels. The catalog’s 0.7 m width is below both published spreads, so its numeric width is left unresolved. ## Siting Grow in full sun for best bloom, with enough clearance for woody stems and a durable support. The species can send out root suckers, so inspect around the base and remove shoots that move beyond the intended planting. It is deciduous; the green compound foliage may yellow before dropping. The RHS H4 rating is a UK hardiness category and is not translated here into a USDA zone. ## Maintenance Water while establishing and during prolonged dry weather. In late winter or early spring, thin or shorten selected shoots to contain growth and retain a manageable framework. Remove unwanted suckers and keep stems away from gutters, roofs, and vulnerable structures.
