‘Flava’ is the yellow-flowered form of trumpet vine, a vigorous deciduous climber with green compound leaves and deep-yellow trumpet-shaped flowers in summer. It attaches with aerial rootlets and needs a substantial support; its mature size and tendency to sucker call for deliberate placement ([sources: [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/46620/campsis-radicans-yellow-trumpet/details), [Ashwood Nurseries](https://www.ashwoodnurseries.com/product/campsis-radicans-flava/), [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/campsis-radicans/common-name/trumpet-vine/)]).
## Flowers and form
The RHS and Ashwood Nurseries both describe ‘Flava’ as reaching about 8–12 m tall. RHS gives a spread of 2.5–4 m, while the catalog’s current 1.5 m width and 5–6 ft label are smaller than that published range. The available sources support a range rather than one representative metric, so the numeric width is cleared and the label updated to 8–13 ft. Ashwood notes flowering from July through September.
## Siting
Plant in full sun for best flowering and provide moist but well-drained soil during establishment. The RHS lists it as a vigorous climber; tie young stems to a strong support where needed. Trumpet vines can produce root suckers, so allow room to monitor and control spread. RHS hardiness H4 is a UK rating, not a USDA zone conversion.
## Maintenance
Water consistently as the plant establishes, then monitor during extended dry periods. In late winter or early spring, shorten side shoots and remove unwanted stems to maintain the allotted framework and encourage flowering on new growth. Remove root suckers promptly and keep the support sound as the woody vine matures.
