[Madame Galen](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/campsis-x-tagliabueana/common-name/madame-galen/) is a vigorous hybrid trumpet vine with large salmon-red to orange flowers. The woody climber attaches to supports by aerial roots and twining stems, and its flowers attract hummingbirds. Give it sturdy space to climb; it is much larger than a compact patio vine.
## Form and flowering
NC State Extension lists mature growth of about 15–30 feet tall and 6–12 feet wide. The deciduous foliage returns in spring, and trumpet-shaped blooms appear through summer. The plant suits a strong trellis, wall, fence, or arbor where its spread can be managed.
## Growing conditions
Grow in full sun or light shade in moist, well-drained soil. It flowers best in a sunny, sheltered position. USDA hardiness is listed for zones 6–9. Rich soil encourages more vigorous growth, so avoid placing it where suckering roots or spreading stems will be difficult to control.
## Maintenance
Train young stems onto a sturdy support. Prune in late winter or early spring, removing unwanted runners and shortening stems to keep the vine within its allotted space. Flowers form on new growth, so timely pruning supports flowering while keeping growth manageable.
