About La Bomba II Pepper

La Bomba II is PanAmerican Seed’s F1 jalapeño pepper, selected for large, thick-walled fruit and improved disease resistance. The breeder describes the plants as upright and vase-shaped, with medium heat and dark green fruit that ripens red. Harvest the large peppers green or allow them to mature to red for a later pick. ## Growing Conditions Grow in full sun. The breeder’s culture sheet lists a mature height of 32–40 inches and a spread of 12–18 inches; the current catalog dimensions match those ranges. PanAmerican Seed recommends this selection for containers or in-ground planting and notes that it performs with or without support. Trellising can help support the upright plant and make its fruit easier to reach. ## Harvest and Use The jalapeños are about 3–3.25 inches long, with thick walls and little tendency to check. PanAmerican Seed lists 50–55 days from transplant to green fruit and 65–70 days to red ripe fruit. Use the fresh peppers in dishes where jalapeño flavor and medium heat are wanted. ## Maintenance Set transplants into a warm, sunny growing site and allow room for a 12–18 inch spread. Harvest green or red fruit with care to avoid damaging stems; provide a stake or trellis if the upright plant needs support.
