Create design onlineAbout Masquerade Ornamental Pepper
Masquerade is a compact ornamental pepper that also produces edible fruit. Its upright peppers change color as they mature, creating a mixed display of purple, orange, and red. Garden references describe the selection as a container plant; the fruit is hot, so use it in cooking only when its heat suits the dish.
## Growing Conditions
Grow Masquerade in full sun. Published mature-height estimates vary: Milmont lists 10–12 inches, while The Original Garden reports 30–45 cm (about 12–18 inches). Milmont lists a 10–12 inch spread. Use a pot or small garden site where its changing fruit can be seen. The Original Garden recommends well-drained soil.
## Fruit and Season
The Original Garden lists yellow, purple, orange, and red fruit colors. Dave’s Garden reports fruit changing from purple to red, with a tapered shape and hot to very hot pungency. The Original Garden cautions against eating its peppers, while Dave’s Garden and Reimer Seeds describe ornamental use and report hot fruit.
## Maintenance
Place in a sunny spot with well-drained growing medium. Water regularly while avoiding waterlogging, and harvest with care if using the hot fruit.
